HARRISONBURG EDUCATION FOUNDATION AWARDS MORE THAN $19,000 IN TEACHER GRANTS

The Harrisonburg Education Foundation (HEF) announced the recipients of its annual teacher grant awards. This year HEF awarded more than $19,000 in total grant monies, and the Foundation has plans to expand its grant program in the coming years. Teachers from each of the Harrisonburg City Schools received grants this year, with a total of 27 grants awarded. The HEF’s Teacher Grant Program was established to offer innovative education opportunities for specific teacher-initiated planned programs to be used in the classroom. The HEF offers up to $1,000 in grant funding per program. Teachers apply for each grant and must include a detailed proposal outlining the program’s educational relevance. The grant applications are then reviewed by a committee that selects the grant recipients. The Harrisonburg Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors representing business, industry, higher education, public schools and community organizations. The mission of the HEF is to enrich the ongoing public education program for the Harrisonburg City Schools.

The HEF secures all its funding through local fundraising and community donations. If you would like more information regarding the Harrisonburg Education Foundation or if you would like to contribute to the HEF, please contact Craig Mackail, HEF director, at (540) 434-9916.
