Did you know that most teachers spend more than $300 of their own money for supplies for their classroom? The Harrisonburg Education Foundation has a way to help reduce teachers' out-of-pocket expenses for supplemental classroom supplies. The HEF's Teacher Supply Depot opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 2007. Located on Garbers Church Road just south of Harrisonburg High School, the supply depot is a central storehouse for items donated by businesses, local groups and members of the community, which are then offered to teachers for use in their classrooms at no cost. The Harrisonburg Education Foundation has provided more than $69,000 worth of supplies to teachers and staff members in the Harrisonburg City Schools through the supply depot. These supplies directly benefit the students in the classrooms. We encourage businesses to donate overstocked, dated and excess inventory to HEF's Teacher Supply Depot. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact HEF Director Craig Mackail at (540) 434-9916 or cmackail@harrisonburg.k12.va.us. Harrisonburg City Public School teachers "check out" at the Teacher Supply Depot with FREE supplies to be used in their classrooms.
The HEF Teacher Supply Depot has been made possible through the generous donation of warehouse space by Dr. James Simmons of the Ashby Animal Clinic.
